A third-party logistics services provider based in Florida has planted a flag in metro Detroit as it plugs into the local manufacturing supply chain with plans for more growth.

BlueGrace Logistics opened a 5,700-square-foot office in Troy earlier this month with a dozen employees and plans to hire up to 20 by year’s end and 50 by the same time next year, according to the company.

The office will serve the company’s Detroit area customers, made up primarily of local automakers and suppliers, Todd Trompeter, vice president of logistics operations at BlueGrace, said in an email. The company declined to name customers.

The Detroit office will add to the number of BlueGrace control towers across the Midwest, expanding on our established Chicago location

BlueGrace doesn’t haul or store goods – its service centers around handling the shipping operations for companies and getting truckloads of product from point A to B as efficiently as possible. Its proprietary transportation management system allows customers to compare carriers to find the fastest, least expensive shipping options.

“The Detroit office will add to the number of BlueGrace control towers across the Midwest, expanding on our established Chicago location,” Trompeter said in a news release.

Kerwin Gordon, senior director of logistics operations, will lead the managed logistics operations team in Troy, the release stated.

The company is hiring for a variety of positions in Troy, including operations managers, logistics engineers and business development personnel. Salaries range from $40,000 to more than $100,000 for higher-level roles.

The company, which has 11 offices in large cities throughout the U.S., said it also chose the Detroit area to tap into the talent from supply chain programs at Central Michigan, Wayne State and Michigan State universities.

Not only that, but Detroit also has amazing talent and presents a growth possibility for our organization.

“There is an incredible opportunity for the growing logistics demand across the Midwest, especially with the supply-chain snarls that have gridlocked our shipping system for the last two years,” CEO Bobby Harris said in the release. “Not only that, but Detroit also has amazing talent and presents a growth possibility for our organization.”

Harris founded BlueGrace in 2009 with eight employees and has grown it into one of the largest third-party logistics providers in the country, with 600 employees serving 10,000 customers each year. The privately held company generated more than $360 million in revenue in 2019, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported.
